Great news, anime fans! The mega-hit anime film ‘Your Name’ (Kimi No Na Wa) will be available on Netflix starting July 10, 2020!
While Netflix has not yet made an official announcement that the film will release on the platform, Your Name can be seen in the Netflix app’s ‘Coming Soon’ section. Plus, the official Netflix page for Your Name is now live.
While there’s no word yet on if Your Name will be available worldwide, we can confirm that Your Name will be available on Netflix in the Philippines. This is definitely great news for Pinoy anime fans who want to watch (or re-watch) this incredible anime movie.

In case you’re unfamiliar, Your Name is an anime film directed by Makoto Shinkai (the director of films such as 5cm per second and The Garden of Words). Released in 2016, Your Name became one of the highest-grossing anime films in Japan, and it received critical acclaim, with the movie having a 98% rating on RottenTomatoes.
The day the stars fell, two lives changed forever. High schoolers Mitsuha and Taki are complete strangers living separate lives. But one night, they suddenly switch places. Makoto Shinkai fans across the world will rejoice to know that Netflix has added Shinkai’s blockbuster hit, Your Name, to their library However, the problem is if you live in the United States, you won’t see Kimi No Na Wa in your library.
Why? Because certain titles are geo-locked and unfortunately Netflix doesn’t have the rights to show these Your Name in the United States (at least for now). But don’t fear! There is a way to hack the system and give you access to watch Your Name and other Shinkai films on Netflix via a VPN.

All reputable VPNs will have a free trial option. A VPN is necessary because Netflix tracks your location your IP address. A VPN (virtual private network) is a software that masks your IP address and protects you from cyberattacks, as well as stops companies from tracking your internet activity without your permission.

However, VPNs can also fake your IP address to make it appear as though you are in a different country. In doing so, we can trick the Netflix app into thinking we are in a different country and give us access to that country’s library.
This step isn’t always necessary, but sometimes if you don’t clear your cache, the Netflix app will have your past location data and this method won’t work. In order to ensure that you can watch the Kimi No Na Wa film on Netflix properly and without issue, you should clear your cache before connecting the VPN to your desired country.
NOTE: if you try clearing your cache and it still doesn’t work, clear your storage too. Yes, this will require you to sign in again, but I’ve had no problems getting this to work after clearing storage.
